The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) advocates for human subjects in research by working in concert with UVA researchers to ensure that they have the education and tools they need to work ethically with participants in their research studies.
To help support the mission of UVA’s HRPP, our office has specialized into teams that serve the following areas:
Education and Training - To support the development needs of new researchers.
Institutional Review Board for Health Sciences Research (IRB-HSR) - To review medically related human subject research studies.
Institutional Review Board for Social and Behavioral Sciences (IRB-SBS) - To review social, behavioral and educational (non-medical) human subject research studies.
Post Approval Monitoring & Education (PAM & Ed) - To review ongoing human subject research and support the educational needs of study teams conducting research studies.
Our office teams also work with other HRPP partner offices to ensure that compliance with federal regulations and ethical principles create research environments that are proactively protecting participants as researchers achieve their research goals.
